Mention it quietly, Tanger is a city on the move. As recently as the Sixties it was a well known celebrity haunt but since then it has stood in the shadows and watched as Marrakech took all the praise and plaudits. Now it's about to re-enter centre stage with ambitious plans to be the most desirable destination in Morocco within five years.

Tangiers A Pheonix from the flames

There's a word you hear a lot on the streets of Tanger today, ambition. The ambition to become a world cultural and touristic destination; the ambition to show the world the vibrancy and sophistication of Tanger; and the ambition to host the 2012 World Expo.

A City Reborn

Two men have played a key role in this transformation; the King Mohamed VI and the mayor of Tanger, Mohamed Hassad. The King used his considerable political power to transfer Hassad, from overseeing the regeneration of Marrakech to the task of transforming Tanger.

Progress has been impressive. New plans have been generated, funds allocated and work begun on a host of infrastructure and environmental improvements. Now when visiting heads of state (eg President Chirac) come to Morocco they come to Tanger, not Marrakech, Casablanca or Rabat.

Tangers - A New Landmark

Central to this vision of the future for Tanger is to re-claim its place as the centre for trade in the region. A new business district is rising from the ground to the east of the city. This new Central Business District is designed to attract global corporations to Tanger with a host of world class facilities and communications links.

The centre peice of this new busines district will be Tanger City Center, a 900 million Dh scheme to create a "Canary Wharf" in Tanger. This new landmark will feature a mix of international standard hotels, conference facilities, commercial and office untis as well as 93,000 m2 of residential accommodation.

This is a development that will attract global interest from individuals and investment groups alike. We are currently in the pre-launch phase of the commercialisation and are taking registrations from interested parties.
